These images are enlargements of overexposed negatives — abstract landscapes of film saturated with light, heat, glare, and pain. They draw a parallel between photographic film and human skin; two surfaces illuminated and marked by the sun’s rays, both sensitive to their environment.
This work evokes the contrast between a caress and a burn. When touch turns to trace. It’s the cicadas of Provence, the heaviness, the languor. It’s my skin peeling at the end of summer, it’s for everyone who ever tried to swallow the sun. It’s the softness of August evenings and the crushing midday heat. It’s the hand shielding the eyes when stepping out of the dark. It’s a tribute to our photosensitivity. It’s the Mediterranean, too.
